Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center Attorney Visits Immigration Law Class
Ms. Megan Bremer, Esq. offers students a practical perspective to Professor Jill Family?s Immigration Law class.
Megan Bremer, the Managing Attorney at the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center, spoke to students in Associate Professor Jill Family?s Immigration Law class during the last week of February, offering them a look at her experiences as an immigration attorney and assisting in teaching the class. The Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center is a prominent non-profit organization that provides legal services to immigrants detained by the federal government.
In addition to speaking about her experiences working with children displaced by armed conflict in the Sudan, Ms. Bremer instructed students about the intricacies of refugee law generally. She spent time on Thursday and Friday going over cases and class assignments with the students, offering insight into how what they were learning would be applied in practice. She discussed persecution claims based on political opinion, membership in a particular social group, race, nationality, or religion and taught the students important lessons about representing clients in immigration court. During Ms. Bremer?s visit, the students participated in a mock immigration court hearing.
?It was very generous of Megan to take time out of her busy schedule to share her knowledge and experiences with our class. It was a great opportunity for students to see the very real and very timely applications of the law and skills they learn in class,? said Professor Family.
A graduate of McGill University, Ms. Bremer graduated from Northeastern University School of Law and Tufts University School of Medicine with a joint JD/MPH, and she also has a Master of Education degree from Harvard University School of Education.
