DuPont Diversity Pipeline Program at Widener Law 2009: Christine Shaub
DuPont Diversity Pipeline Program Brings Promising Howard High Students to Widener Law
“You need to be able to synthesize lots of information in a short time,” said Sydney Howe-Barksdale, Director of the Public Interest Resource Center and Professor of Legal Methods, as she described the skills required to be a lawyer to 17 students from Howard High School. The students visited Widener Law’s Delaware Campus on Wednesday, April 8th as part of the DuPont Diversity Pipeline Project.
Assistant Dean for the Office of Student Affairs Serena Williams greeted the students, and then they enjoyed a tour of the law school campus and the Legal Education Institute. Afterwards, they had an informative session with Dr. Howe-Barksdale, in which she discussed with the students their plans for the future and what it would take to get into law school.
With the Delaware Supreme Court at Widener Law two hear two oral arguments in the Ruby R. Vale Moot Courtroom, the Howard High students were treated to the unique opportunity to watch the proceedings in the case of James Cooke v. State of Delaware via a live video feed to their classroom.
