Some things come to mind:
a) What time of day was this that all those people were lined up?
b) That might me one really big room where the keynote is held. I wonder how long it took for everyone to file in.
c) I'm going to line up tomorrow morning for the keynote of 2012. Really, it seems to be the only way.

The one at WWDC was quite strange. It kept going into various intermediate rooms and hallways, then stopping for a while, then up an escalator or two, around and around.. eventually breaking out in a free-for-all to get a decent seat.
