This is a great new idea for parts of the developing world where underground aquifers are hard to reach and accessing water is a problem. Forget dirty diesel pumps electrification and major water infrastructure a good bit of pumping will solve the problem. The pumpy pump pump can be made by any gap year student or native in a few minutes and it really works. Try it at home and let us know how you get on.

Whatever happened to water infrastructure for the developing world? They want it but some say they shouldn't have it. Greens have got to have their comeuppance for their misanthropy. Also, the health and safety angle always amuses me.

Brilliant! I’m thinking I should try this out at home with my garden pond. After all, who needs or wants long hot showers, clean running tap water and a flushing loo, especially when you can spend your whole day extracting clean water (if you’re lucky) from your own back yard or local canal!

Is this for real! pumpy pump pump instead of plumbing. Joke or not, I laughed then got angry knowing that this kind of thing is celebrated as ingenuity for poor people.
