I say that the 'smiladon' died because thier teeth were more of a hinder than a help :(

Recently, they've done research on Sabertooth Tigers and found that their teeth were more for show, like in mating then for killing. They were shown to have sensitive nerves in their teeth and they actually broke off easily and would have gotten in the way if used for killing. - AngelusCoheed
