October 18, 2014 - West Virginia-born and Yale-educated, Billy Edd Wheeler was elected in 2000 to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His many masterful compositions include “Coward of the County” (Kenny Rogers); “Jackson” (Johnny Cash and June Carter); “It’s Midnight” (Elvis Presley); and “Gimme Back My Blues” (Jerry Reed). Wheeler scored one major hit of his own with the novelty number “ Ode to the Little Brown Shack out Back” (#3, 1964–65). Living now in North Carolina, he makes a rare Nashville appearance to discuss his career and perform briefly. The program is illustrated with vintage photos, film footage, and recordings.
