By the time the last lap was swum, Redlands swimmers had doubled
their goal in the university’s efforts to help
Haiti—swimming the 700 miles to the devastated
island, then back, in the Thompson Aquatic Center pool.

At the end of the two-week long effort, swimmers in the
“700 Miles to Haiti” campaign
had lapped more than 1,400 miles and the campus and community had
generously given over $13,000 in straight donations and
pledges.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
& Diving Head Coach Leslie Whittemore has estimated the final
tally will fall somewhere around $15,000.
