Bricksmith's Minifigure Generator is great, but it doesn't edit existing minifigs. You can manipulate minifig elements individually, but it can be difficult to preserve their alignment.
Bricksmith's Rotate panel allows you to rotate a group of pieces around an arbitrary point (among other references). Once you locate the joint axes, you can use this option to pose minifigs in a way that is fairly reversible.

Note relevant coordinates (-9Y and 28Z, in this case)

Select everything that should rotate around the hip (the legs should stay in the "seated" orientation for this model)

Enter the coordinates of the hip joint as the "Fixed point" rotation origin, and enter 45 as the X angle to make the dude sit up

Select the arms and hands and update the rotation origin for the shoulder joint

Due to the slope of the torso's side, this orientation isn't entirely precise. The Minifigure Generator can't be beat here.

Rotate the head around the neck (Y axis)

Rotation increments are relative here
