A billion users use bittorrent around the world.
Artists embrace it, record companies (big name, greedy ones) hate it, but the ones who encourage the sharing of music/movies/videos or basically anything are those that like it.
There's no real way of catching people in the act because nobody would really talk about it in public. A few cops I know actively use bittorrent to download LOADS of content.
Movies for example, theaters/cinemas or whichever you call them, only keep theres for a week or less. Torrenting them makes it like 2-6 decades ago when movies were played for a MONTH!
My mother misses those times, your parents probably remember those days too.
Bittorrent is pushed by those that hate it, as illegal, when it really isn't. If you wanted to do something illegal, you could share IP or trade secrets on bittorrent/p2p. THAT would be illegal.

Frostclick.com embraces p2p/bittorrent to share anything open source, free, creative commons licenses. Anything infected with DRM, SecuROM, etc. is excluded.
Frostwire is one 100% truly free, open source P2P & bittorrent client.
Limewire is one hell of a SCAM. Basic version is crippled, but is the exact same as "pro".
