Description

Sharecropper- a parasite farmer-group. Their history of deprivation
is quite stretched. They have no lands of their own- that’s why
cultivating on others’ land. What percentage of crops will they get
and what the Mahajan (landholder) will- all these stories include
years of crises and despair. Since the ancient time, rural marginal
people have two professions- either they’re agro-labour or
sharecropper. Being an agricultural labour is a common concept.
Farmer will give labour on others’ land. But, sharecroppers will
get a petty percentage of the crops they produced as the landowners
will take the major part. If the produce isn’t good, there’s no way
out. Number of sharecroppers is increasing in Bangladesh. As
farmers’ families are getting bigger, that’s why they have more
partners now on their lands. Everyday, farmers are becoming
landless. Either they’re heading towards cities or they choose
sharecropping as profession. Rural rich community are shifting to
cities and leaving their lands for sharecropping business.
