Gary, I went through the exact same realization last year. I'm glad I made the changes. You will be helping MORE PEOPLE that you care about in the long run as now you have time to get your projects done... which will help people.
Plus, the people closer to you will grow much closer now that you have time/energy for them. Rather than 1000 things/projects/people getting your attention, it will now be a few, therefore dramatically increasing the effectiveness of those which in the long run is obviously best.
