November 17, 2012 - Louisiana native Billy Sanford relocated to Nashville after working on the Louisiana Hayride as a young man. Sanford achieved early success playing guitar on Roy Orbison’s worldwide hit “Oh, Pretty Woman” in 1964. Sanford was a member of Orbison’s touring group, and he played with Bob Wills’s Texas Playboys in 1967 and 1968. As a session guitarist he appeared on records by a wide variety of country and pop artists, including George Jones, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Tammy Wynette, Trisha Yearwood, and many more. Sanford continues to perform with Don Williams. This interview is illustrated with vintage photographs, film footage, and recordings.
