Description

StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. For the 2018 competition, we asked students to choose a provision of the U.S. Constitution and create a video illustrating why it's important to them. Notes from the filmmakers:
In 1791, our Founding Fathers ratified the Bill of Rights. In it, Amendment 6 grants each American constituent the "right to counsel" in criminal cases. Although established over two hundred years ago, American citizens still struggle with finding proper representation in court. Thankfully, in recent years, the Supreme Court established the system of public defenders nationwide. Our documentary, "The Backbone of Our Justice System", is here to shed light on the importance of public defenders and to clear up common misconceptions.
