Description

Commercial farming is quite new to the farmers of Bangladesh. Farmers do their farming and the profits go to the traders- this is quite a prolonged tradition. However, due to natural disasters, ever-decreasing land, price hike of agricultural inputs, and prices for daily commodities going beyond the reach of the farmers, make the agricultural task, even tougher. “After meat, mustard” is the way the poor farmers spend the whole year. To keep up his farming, he needs cash money. But the ready support has long been so precious for them. It’s not an old story that during the years of 2006-2008, farmers had to bear great sufferings for agricultural credit facility. A selected group of farmers managed it with great hardships, however, most of the marginal farmers found it pretty tough, and even if they could arrange, it got stuck as a permanent burden. Many didn’t know that they could avail such facilities. They had the idea that credits are all but traditionally oppressive. Many a times, farmers cried out for credit facilities after losing everything due to natural calamities, yet couldn’t get it.
