Description

Money-ponds are all around this village, Shahbazpur. Money is
at
the ponds. Shahbazpur was once a village that remained far
behind
from development. Small farmers have brought fortune with the
help
of the ponds!

All the villagers are now fish-farmers. Farmers who merely
counted in hundreds, now count in millions. We visited this
village
during January, 2010. We were so surprised seeing the optimism
among the koi fish farmers. Shahbazpur is now known by the name of
a
fish- it’s now titled as 'Climbing (Koi) fish village'. The
success
of this village is only five years old. Before five years,
people
of this village had no success, happiness, peace or
self-reliance.
Nobody ever gave a thought over the development of the village. It’s

the fate of those who are always behind- that’s how they took
their poverty as sealed. But when the poverty is fading away,
people of this village are now well-aware in identifying the
socio-economic crises. They can surely point out why they’re
still
pushed back- they reach out for solution. Fish-farmers
mentioned
about the difficulties of marketing even during the full season
of
koi fish. They have to count loss of thousands of taka. A road
is
at the centre of their suffering. Fishermen can't transport
their
fish properly because of the road that is actually connected to
the
highway. No trucks can come in the village and fishes either rot
or
lose its colour. That's why, farmers aren't able to get the
right
price. During rainy season, the situation is even worse. People
of
this village want this road to be constructed so that they can
market koi fish in time.
