Description

Bangladesh had plenty of fish resources in the seas, rivers,
lakes,
canals and in other water bodies. Bengali people had its
ancient
self-reliance in many sectors. Fisheries sector is one of
those.
Increase in population brought new dimensions of food production
in
this independent state. Public and private initiatives worked
together since liberation. Bangladesh also started fish farming
like the other populated countries. With the government
initiative,
since the 80s fish hatcheries were built. Before that,
Bangladesh
Fisheries Research Institute was established. Beside natural
resources, fish farming went forward gradually. Many people
were
involved with fish farming. This sector was then regarded as a
significant employment resource.

Amidst great activities, now we're in fear of
losing fish-species. We're to be blamed and
climate change is the other half that is responsible for this.
Due
to lots of different changes, many of our traditional fish
varieties are lost now.
