Project Offset Aquired by Intel (back)

Offset's website pretty much says it all; I wonder if Intel is looking to compete against Epic Games' Unreal Engine and Crytek in the engine licensing arena? I have to say, they couldn't have quired a more impressive technology or deserving team- the Offset guys are brilliant, not to mention dedicated to their project- but I must admit I'm a bit saddened to see a promising indie studio lose it's independence to a big company. It seems to be the way things go these days.
