Are any of you guys interested in sharing your first drafts with us once you're finished? If you guys are interested in reading mine I'll send it to you. Just let me know.

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

I'd be happy to read other people's stories! Mine is already on a blog at http://amillionsunsets.blogspot.com

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

I totally want to read EVERYONE'S, I'm really interested to see how they came out!
Mine is currently unreadable due to a mind blowing amount of typos and "crap, i forgot to write that one sentence last paragraph, oh well, it's going here now." But once I go through it and type it up, I might be willing to share my second draft, but that's not going to be for awhile.

cmh05u

cmh05u (2 years ago)

Totally!! I want to see EVERYONE'S, and I'm especially excited that we're all (I think) writing in different genres. So we could form our own Book of the Month club or something until....NEXT NaNoWriMo starts!!

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

That book of the month club is a good idea! We could pick a month to read somebody's novel and then we could all do videos to try and help that person in the editing process, you know give some pointers. That could be a lot of fun.

ChrisHarvey

ChrisHarvey (2 years ago)

Yep, I "TOTALLY" ;-) want to read everyones, but mine will need a bit of a polish (and I'll probably cut one chapter so as not to offend). It's more a 'joining of the dots' as it's a bit fragmented at the moment, although I'm quite happy with what's there, considering the speed it's been written.

So yes, but like Christy's, it'll probably be quite a while before mine is for public consumption.

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

ooh, I like the book of the month club. I don't mind having mine read before polish, and input would be GREAT for the polishing stage. Plus, i want an excuse to say on the Viddler Wrimo group in the off-season.

justjason

justjason (2 years ago)

I know mine reads like crap. In some instances I think I say the same thing about 6 different times on more than 3 different occasions. Oh well. I'm fine with people reading my first draft. If you can stand the terrible grammar, horrible pacing, plot holes and forgotten characters I'll send it to anyone who wants it.

I'm not editing it. It's too time consuming and I'll wait until my craft is better before I start editing anything I write.

I want to read everybody's, too! And I'd be willing to share once I polish it up just a little bit.

Magda-Christy

So, I'm thinking that everyone who wants to do this needs to "claim" a month to share their story. First come first serve, just shout out what month you want to have your novel be novel of the month (and when you're done shouting it out, type it out and post it here ^_^). The first 11 people to respond will get their novels read by the group -- no doubling up on months, and one month per novel. As much as I would LOVE to read everyone's creations, I unfortunately don't have the time :(
Depending on how many people actually "sign up" for this, we can figure out the legistics of getting the novel out to everyone interesting in reading it.

Oh, and if your month is already taken, you can still mention that you'd like to have it, and explain why (ie, if you know that you're not going to get any editing done until the end of feb, but march was already taken, the march person might be willing to switch months so you can share your novel in march. Does that make sense?)

Also, if you find that your novel isn't ready by that month, or if you change your mind and decide not to share your novel or whatever, tell someone as soon as possible, so that we can find another nano novel to read that month. I figure, worse comes to worse, if we have a month without a nano novel to read, we can just pick a normal, already published book to read and have a non-nano book of the month to discuss for that month :)

Does that make sense to you guys? Any questions, post them, and go ahead and start claiming your month.

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

I think those are all great ideas Christy. I'll be one of the first ones to be read. I'll have mine January. I don't want to be December. I'd like at least one month away from my novel. Plus I'm getting paranoid about not finishing in time. But I'd like mine read soon. So January for me.

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

I'll claim December. Mine is quasi-readable, and I should have the story finished up by the first week of December, if not before.

when time comes to start reading, just send me a NaNo mail with your email address in it, and I'll send you the Word doc.

MokeyRocks

MokeyRocks (2 years ago)

Will we provide critiques to one another? :) Could we be like a writers' group, or are we just being a readers' group for this?

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

You guys can critique mine. I know I'll have grammatical errors and various other problems throughout the story so any help will be appreciated.

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

@mokey (too much twitter, i know ^_^) Good question. I think that really depends on the author. I'm thinking that as each author sends out their piece each month, they should also specify what they're looking from us, whether it be just to read their story, to provide some general overal cricitism or to tear the poor thing to shreds :)

Oh, one thing I wanted to ask you guys -- do you think we should have a sort of "grace period" before anyone is allowed to make vids about the novel? Like, maybe say for the first week you can't make vids about the novel, so that everyone gets a chance to at least get started on reading it before they hear about it from others. Or, another idea, should we maybe say at the beginning of each vid something like, "well, i'm up to page 5,854, so I'll be talking about what happens up until then" so that if someone who is only on page 2 might decide to read more of the novel before watching the vid. I dunno, it's just an idea since I know sometimes it can be annoying to hear someone talk about a book and you go "wait wait, i haven't gotten to that part yet" while waving your hands around spaztically. At least thats what I do ^_^ This might not even be a problem, though, since we have a good idea about some general things that go on in some of the novels, so I dunno, what do you guys think?

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

I think we should do both of them. Maybe add what page you're on in the title of the video. A grace period will help too, I think. At least for me it will. I'm sure I'll be one of the slower readers of the group so I'll have to work hard to keep up.

Btw, I want to see the book with 5,854 pages! Yikes, what an epic novel.

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

I like those ideas, either or both would be fine with me.

And ditto on seeing the 5854 page manuscript! I'm only up to about 160 pages (no page breaks) !

HisDisciple

HisDisciple (2 years ago)

I'll take April. Hurrah for motivation to actually edit!

justjason

justjason (2 years ago)

I just now got really self conscious about my novel. But I'll take February.

Here is my terribly written novel in 3 different formats.
JasonsNaNoWriMo2007.doc
JasonsNaNoWriMo2007.pdf
JasonsNaNoWriMo2007.rtf

I'm purposely lowering all your expectations. Honestly this novel has some serious pacing issues, terrible grammar, trite and unimaginative dialog, two-dimensional characters and some other things that I'm fully aware of but can't think of right now. Read at your own risk. With all that said, enjoy... in February.

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

@jason -- chill. It's a nano novel, we'd expect nothing less ^_^ So, so far we have:
Dec - joi
Jan - miserere
Feb - jason
Mar - cmh
April - disciple
May -Patricius
June - Dreamgirls
July - Brandice
Aug - marianas
Sept - poetespresso
Oct - Christy (me!)

Way to be, people!

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

hmmmm...I'm not seeing Magda Christy stepping up to the plate yet. :)

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

@mis oh sush, you weren't supposed to notice ^_^

I wanna give everyone else a chance to sign up. Yeah, that's it :)

cmh05u

cmh05u (2 years ago)

I'll claim March! Eek, now I'm getting excited about trying to write a second draft until then...or maybe I'll just shove it in a box somewhere and forget about it. I know I need a little break from my story. This past few week I've been living in my characters' heads so much that it's hard to keep my own schedule straight. Haha.

Patricius

Patricius (2 years ago)

I guess I'll take May!

Something you guys should all check into is using www.critiquecircle.com it has an awesome inline critique system that is very helpful, I used it last year. I will probably post chapters there before May, but I'll make a vid about that later on.

Kaedtiann

Kaedtiann (2 years ago)

Oooh, awesome idea! I'm so excited to read everyone's novels.

I don't think I'll send mine out, because it's missing a great chunk of scenes in the middle and in general it just doesn't make sense. It'll probably be all edited by 2020.

Dreamgirls

Dreamgirls (2 years ago)

I'll take June if no one else wants it. :o) That will give me plenty of time to edit in the spring.

miserere

miserere (2 years ago)

Wow, we already have over half the months taken up. This is so exciting. We're going to be busy nanoing all year. :)

poetsespresso

poetsespresso (2 years ago)

I'll take any spot (your choice) from April to October. I want to have time in March first to do NaNoEdMo.net

marianas

marianas (2 years ago)

I'll take August. I'm SO EXCITED to read all your novels!! And I'm not sure yet if I'll edit.

cmh05u

cmh05u (2 years ago)

So Jason, does that mean we can't read your novel till it's your month? You posted it up here so I kind of want to read it now...

justjason

justjason (2 years ago)

@cmh05u: You can read it whenever you'd like.

brandice

brandice staff (2 years ago)

I'm in and I'll submit mine.. July for me?

Also, putting them up in pdf form on Lulu might be the easiest way to share them. Stay tuned for some other ideas I have for sharing!!

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

@brandice ooh, I like the LuLu idea. That way you could download it for free, or--if you're like me--buy the printed version.

I need to get mine finished, ACK! DECEMBER IS TOMORROW AND MY STORY ISN'T DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

WRITE JOI!!! Write like the WIND!!! or just hope we are all really slow readers ^_^

I think the lulu idea sounds fantastic. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve, brandice.

cmh05u

cmh05u (2 years ago)

I say poetespresso and Christy take the two remaining months, and we've got it! We've got an entire year of NaNoey goodness headed our way!

SaintJoi

SaintJoi (2 years ago)

Ok, I'm working on uploading the first 2/3 or so of my story to LuLu; as soon as it's up, I'll let ya'll know. And I swear I'll try to finish the story in time for you to read the end!

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

*takes deep breath* alright, alright. I'll claim sept. ^_^ That at least gives me TONS of time to edit this thing and make it remotely readable.

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

We have our year filled! Whee! Of course, as I mentioned above -- anyone who changes their mind about sharing their novel, let us know ahead of time if possible so that we can reschedual. Here's the "offical" schedual (note: yeah, I claimed sept in the post above, but I changed my mind to october ^_^ So, poetespresso -- you've got september):
Dec - joi
Jan - miserere
Feb - jason
Mar - cmh
April - disciple
May -Patricius
June - Dreamgirls
July - Brandice
Aug - marianas
Sept - poetespresso
Oct - Christy (me!)

poetsespresso

poetsespresso (2 years ago)

Sounds good. Though I want to sell mine on lulu.com with a bus-fare-sized profit, so other venues under a different title will be my choice for showing you guys the novel. If that's all right?

Magda-Christy

Magda-Christy (2 years ago)

@poetespresso -- that's perfectly fine.

poetsespresso

poetsespresso (2 years ago)

Jason: thanks for sharing your novel. I guess we'll wait till Feb. to get in depth and discuss it though.

hey, I think it's time someone shared their novel for January! Come on, you know who you are... :)

Sorry, I've been sort of out of it when it comes to the Viddler thing. But here's the link to download my novel. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it.

We need more discussion! Unless it's located elsewhere that I don't see?

Kody_Boye

Kody_Boye (1 year ago)

I'm about to make a random video for this, so watch out, peoples!

poetsespresso

poetsespresso (1 year ago)

I procrastinated on finishing the novel so I'll be doing the 50k words as an "addition" to the novel I have so far to make it a larger work, unfortunately I'm going to take the time to edit but I promise I'll mostly be writing writing writing words instead of really gettting into editing. I'll start off with the word count of what I have now and add 50k to that.
