complete newbie, so excuse the obvious question but,
when i upload a video and it completes, is it just supposed to go automatically to encode or am i supposed to click on something else? because if it does go automatically, then nothing is happening???

Greetings!

Yes, when your video finishes uploading it does automatically begin encoding on Viddler's servers - during this step in the process you should be able to see it on the "encode" tab next to the "upload" tab on the upload page. :)

Once it's done encoding it should show up on the third tab, "completed" - as well as on your Dashboard. :)

Feel free to reply back here if you need a better or more thorough explanation. :)

Thanks for using Viddler!

thanks for the reply josiah :)
but I'm still having problems. because since it is supposed to go automatically to the encode tab, when I upload my video (and I'm 100% sure it's completed) it doesn't automatically go to the encode tab. it literally doesn nothing

Hey again!

I've contacted a member of the Viddler team to see if I can get some more information on what might be going on here, in the mean time I can try to give you some more direct support via IM if you'd like.

I'll private message you my AIM screenname momentarily. :)

Green: It is not supposed to automatically switch. Here is the response to your question.

I got the same problem.
I uploaded the videos some with mepg4 (1.5Mb- test) or .flv (5Mb) all uploaded but none started the encoding. I watch the video answers but no answer to that.
Is it normal? Is there some batch processing time to wait ?

help.
I upload video wait for the encoding . never see it happen but it's writen there is a video to encode and then it never happen.

maybe because it's a wrong format ? I used flv and mpeg4 both encoded with squeeze.

it finally worked for me with a .mov file with deferent encoding inside the quicktime.

@emanuel_g -
it wasn't you or your videos. Our encoders "overloaded" and a number of videos failed to encode. We're still going through the encoder history & trying to right the wrongs. Most of your videos have been encoded & are available.

thanks for using viddler

I am having this same issue with .avi files. I've uploaded 3 and then nothing happened. Maybe these were also part of an encoder "overload"? Some help with this would be great.

Okay, obviously getting new users for your site is not a priority. If anyone finds my videos, please delete them because I'm extremely tired of waiting. I even sent an email to your support and got no response at all. Now I'm off to find another place to share videos.

I also tried to upload videos in .avi format multiple times but it stalled while in the upload process. I kept trying but the same issue happened over and over, so I gave up because of frustration. Does anyone know why the upload process keeps getting "stuck?"

I second ann_g424 on the same problem

I have the same issues as Ann and Protocol. I've actually successfully uploaded a lot of videos, all in WMV format saved from a DV camera via firewire or AVI from our digital stills camera. We then saved it at 640x480 WMV using Windows Movie Maker on XP. But it's often hit and miss when it comes to reliable uploading. Sometimes it goes perfectly but others you can be attempting to upload repeatedly. Often I've maybe tried three or four times and if it stalled each time I'd just give up and try another day.

I think there needs to be a better upload implementation that means, if there's a break in the connection between viddler and your upload, it can reconnect and carry on where it left off, rather than having to start an upload again from scratch.

Is this something that the viddler team are aware of and if so, are you doing anything to address it?

I do think viddler is great though, despite the upload issues.

Ralph

PS -- this forum could also be improved -- new comments should be emailed to participants so we don't have to come look see if anything useful's been posted by another user or by the viddler team... seems obvious to me as it's the norm with almost every other forum I can think of.

Yeah, it seems that no more than the first 10MB of a file will upload.
