The secret to great photographs, I was once told, was to “explore the location.” That’s exactly what I’ll do in this tutorial. Take note how much the simple changes in composition impact the perception and enjoyment of the final image.

The colors of this striking wall decor certainly add the excitement of these images too. Yes, I did give the colors a slight tweak in Lightroom and Photoshop in order to get the finished image I wanted. Anyway, hit the PLAY button below and enjoy the show.

Last week on DigitalProTalk.com I posted one of the prettiest sunrises I had ever seen as the "image of the day." The sunrise was gorgeous all by it self but, I thought I could enhance it even more with a Lightroom/Photoshop tweak or two.

The resultant image was utterly beautiful and was more that a simple "saturation" push. In fact what happened encompassed the entire creative process we photographers go through to get that great image. That's what I wanted to share with you today. Hit the PLAY button below to see what the original image looked like; then where it ended up, and what the sky looked like about 2 hours later. I think you will enjoy the creative journey.
By ziser

In his week's episode, I approaching composition from a different direction. This time I want to show you how to explore the setting, looking for design elements in the background that you can use to better feature your subject in the finished image. This week, I'm discussing how regular objects like wall decor, lamps, and credenzas all come together creating a series of rectangles that offer a striking background to our images today.

The techniques discussed today work well for executive portraiture as well as wedding photography. So hit the PLATY button below and we will travel back to San Diego for this week's lesson, I hope you enjoy the show.
By ziser

I love to survey the lines, shapes, and forms that make up the aesthetics of the photograph - wedding or otherwise.

In today's tutorial I'll walk you through how I put an image together, not so much with Lightroom and Photoshop tweaks, but instead by looking at and understanding the compositional elements of the scene.

By fully understanding compositional dynamics, we get a better idea how to crop the image for its best presentation to the viewer. In this tutorial I'll discuss what we see through the camera and how the camera presents the image, but I want to take it a step further and discuss other elements withing the scene, that when recognized within the composition, can add further interest to the final result.

I know all this may sound a big complicated, but its not. Just hit the PLAY button below and enjoy the show.
By ziser

Back in the film days, we used an array of filters to change and vary the tonalities of the scene in our B&W photography. We would make all the necessary final tweaks in the darkroom when printing the final image.

The master of B&W image was, of course, Ansel Adams. I wonder, if Ansel was still around today, if he would be shooting digitally. I think so - getting to the finished result with software tools like Lightroom and Photoshop make it not only a breeze to get to a great result. but for me, it even more fun that the film days. Hit The PLAY button below and let me walk you through my digital darkroom and we'll have some fun too.
By ziser

This tutorial will show you how I changed a fairly average location into something quite dramatic. I really wanted to add a sense of the “dramatic” to this particular image and I thought I'd do it with color. I remember this sky not being all that exciting – you know, kind of grayish, clouds not too exciting and actually quite dull. I knew my main challenge was to really, really “pop” the sky. The final result is a combination of three elements:

1 – Lighting technique.

2 – Lightroom technique.

3 – Photoshop technique.

Combining these three resources resulted in the photograph that I thought was strikingly different than your normal wedding image. Hit the PLAY button below to see how I pulled it off. Enjoy the show!
By ziser

I had to get all the shots I wanted in less that 15 minutes and get the bride and groom back to the reception and their guests. This tutorial walks you through the next set of images I created for my wedding couple in a very short amount of time. Backlighting and cool compositional lines make for some pretty dramatic wedding images. This week's tutorial shows me working quickly with my assistant to put the shots together and the great result we got. Hit the PLAY button below and enjoy the show!
By ziser

In today's tutorial I'll walk you through part of my wedding shoot-out which I presented at the KPPA wedding shoot out a few weeks ago. What I like about this tutorial is the fact that it shows hows I work to get the shot to come together - lighting, posing, composition, tweaks and all. I love the finished image. Hit the PLAY button below to see how I put the shot together and enjoy the show.

In this tutorial - let's head to Glacier Peak at Yosemite National Park. From that wonderful vista I made several pano images simply by turning to my left and then scanning to my right keeping the center focus spot position on the horizon - no tripod, all hand held, You would think that might complicate the process for Photoshop CS4. The reality was that CS4 did a great job in the stitching process and the result was a wonderful panorama.

In the original image the boy and his dad were surrounded with other wedding guests. And even though they were out of focus, they still distracted from the moment I wanted to capture in this image. I was able to quickly improve the image in Photoshop with the Quick Selection tool. Hit the PLAY button below to see how easy it was to make this image a lot stronger than it was. originally.
By ziser

Typically if we were going to photograph our subject against the sky as I have done in this image, many photogs would just use their on-camera flash as shoot away.
Learning To See The Leading Lines

Today's video tutorial is short and sweet but offers some insights in how I like to design my images. What do I mean by that? I'm a photographer who first surveys the three dimensional space before I ask my subject to step into the scene. I'm always looking to where the "directional pointers" lead in the scene and then tend to place my subject at that point. You will see in this short tutorial how the lines in the scene, once determined, lead the viewer's eye right to the subject. It's important that we learn to see in this fashion because then we have more control over our final composition and the final impression our photograph has on the viewer. Hit the PLAY button below to see what I mean.
By ziser
