This tutorial will show you how I changed a fairly average location into something quite dramatic. I really wanted to add a sense of the “dramatic” to this particular image and I thought I'd do it with color. I remember this sky not being all that exciting – you know, kind of grayish, clouds not too exciting and actually quite dull. I knew my main challenge was to really, really “pop” the sky. The final result is a combination of three elements:

1 – Lighting technique.

2 – Lightroom technique.

3 – Photoshop technique.

Combining these three resources resulted in the photograph that I thought was strikingly different than your normal wedding image. Hit the PLAY button below to see how I pulled it off. Enjoy the show!
By ziser

In the original image the boy and his dad were surrounded with other wedding guests. And even though they were out of focus, they still distracted from the moment I wanted to capture in this image. I was able to quickly improve the image in Photoshop with the Quick Selection tool. Hit the PLAY button below to see how easy it was to make this image a lot stronger than it was. originally.
By ziser

Is Lightroom Faster Than Photoshop?

A few months ago I re-ran one of my very early tutorials entitled, "Rocky Mountain High". I loved the tutorial because it showed how I solve the problem we portrait photographers sometimes encounter - dark, variable backgrounds. A couple readers commented wondering if I would have used Lightroom now that's its available. Well, I decided to revisit the image and test out the hypothesis of whether Lightroom would be faster than Photoshop in this instance. You may notice that the length of the Photoshop tutorial runs a few seconds shorter, but that's because I've gotten much longer winded these days. Hit the PLAY button below and you be the judge as to which solution gives the best result. You might be surprised.
By ziser

Underexposure - Saving The Image: Part1

What do we do if that image is badly underexposed and it really needs to be in the wedding album? Can we save it? What are the noise issues involved. If there is a tremendous amount of noise, what can we do to ameliorate it? These are the questions answered in this tutorial as I walk you through one very underexposed image. I'll show you the JPEG and RAW strategies involved, each representing a different processing challenge to get to that decent result. This all sounds very simple, but I think you will be surprised by the results and how I got there. Hit the PLAY button below to see the rest of the story.
