A slow/overnight smart charger will fully charge them in 14-16 hours, keeping them at float-charge until they're taken off the charger.
I use a 100 mAh charger, charges my 2460 mAh NiMH batteries in 24 hours. I use a small radio to run them down completely (my camera declares them dead at 50% power) while I get 2 weeks of listening time or 72+ hours of LED runtime.
Funny discharging and recharging them with a slow charger is worth the time.
