I am assuming he is talking about straight auto setting for the shutter speed? I am pretty sure the 5D has a lot more flexibility and speed than the 50 if you know how to work it. Bottom line: the 5D is not an amateur camera hence the price and feature differences.

I don't think it's a matter of shutter speed, the camera can only reload and take another pic so fast. I guess it's because of the data transfer rates.

Wow. 3.9 fps on the 5d vs. 6.3 on the 50d. That's a big difference, but I doubt it's because of data transfer, not that it matters. Or if it is, it's just a tradeoff. Grabbing 1080i at 30 fps is much more than you could expect from any still shots at roughly 1/5 of the frame rate, but I think they make these tradeoffs all over their line. The ability to grab video probably makes it so that they don't want to necessarily give you EVERYTHING at that price. They'll save it for a higher end model that takes video, and shoots in the 8 fps area. At least that's what I think.

The video quality is really good too. (see that clip of John @ the end) And the file format is a plain old .MOV!!!!!
