Jordanian Prince Invites Basketball Legend Rolando Blackman To Launch Generations For Peace - Abu Dhabi Camp
An exciting new partnership between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Generations For Peace has been confirmed for the Generations For Peace Abu Dhabi camp 09.
The NBA are scheduled to send an expert team - made up of coaches and former players - to the Middle East to undertake basketball workshops with the youth leaders, as well as providing support and motivation throughout the camp.
Following the announcement of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, as a Founding Partner of Generations For Peace, Abu Dhabi will play host to the third annual Generations For Peace camp by bringing together youth leaders from nine Asian and African countries troubled by conflict and Abu Dhabi participating as the hosts.
Founded by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan in 2007, Generations For Peace uses sport as a vehicle for peace building in divided communities. Previously held in Amman, Jordan, youth leaders from sixteen countries learnt the skills to run peace programmes and cascade their learning back home. As a result of these camps, more than 45 peace projects using sport amongst youth and children in troubled areas were implemented by the end of 2008.
The Generations For Peace Pioneer Certification Programme will be delivered during Abu Dhabi Camp 09 from leading international peace education experts and sport coaches. The training programme is composed of four key modules which focus on the roles Peace Pioneers will undertake within their communities: Peace Building; instructing children; training of trainers; Advocacy for Generations For Peace and Partners to the local communities. They will also receive sport training, rules and teaching skills in four sports: Softball, Football, Volleyball and Basketball.
