<p><a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/thatsawesometv/videos/20/" title="Episode # 022: AEV ProCal Overview" ><img src="http://cdn-thumbs.viddler.com/thumbnail_1_55395013.jpg" width="114" height="86" alt="Episode # 022: AEV ProCal Overview" border="0" /></a></p>

In this episode, I go back into the garage, but this time I have a tech twist. A problem that occurs after upgrading to HUGE tires/wheels is that the vehicles computer is confused. The speedometer, shift points, odometer, everything relating to the wheels turning is out of whack. In episode 21, you saw my buddy Chad’s 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK, which has 37″ tires. Chad was looking for me to hack his Jeep’s computer to re-calibrate, because the dealers cannot calibrate that large… I found a few different solutions, some expensive, some confusing, but none as easy as the AEV ProCal Module from AEV Conversions. Think USB stick for cars… very cool project, very simple, and pretty inexpensive. If you own a jeep with large tires, this device is a no brainer… and for you tech heads like me, it’s just plain awesome!

In this episode I stray completely away from technology and head into the garage. With the help of my buddy Chad, we upgrade his 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK with a Rancho bumper (RS6221B). This is a common aftermarket upgrade for you Jeep guys, but it comes with it’s challenges. So, Chad and I thought it would be awesome to document the process… And because this show is all about education, I thought it would be great to extend some help to the Jeep community at large. Like I said in previous episodes, it’s about making the internet a richer place for everyone.

I’d also like to thank our friends at <a href="http://wundercarparts.com,">http://wUnderCarParts.com,</a> a great website for all your replacement / performance part needs!

In this episode I cover some basics for having a really successful eBay sale. I show you my secret (ok-not that secret) formula for making the buyer feel all warm and fuzzy! It’s a long one, so sit back and enjoy!

OH -failed to mention, if you do ever sell your hard drive, make sure you do a several pass wipe to ensure security. OSX has it built into disk utility, and for the PC users, I recommend DBAN… maybe I will do a quick show on that next week.

This episode is all about upgrading your aging Mac in these tough economic times. Taking an outdated machine and sparking new life on the cheap.

This was all started by a friend requesting me upgrading her older 17... iMac from 10.3.9 to leopard (10.5.x). The first issue was it only had 256mb of ram, so that had to be upgraded (Leopard requires at least 512mb)... also, she wanted to add wireless capability, so I threw in an internal airport card as well. All in all, it was a simple upgrade, and light on the wallet. Join me in the process and you just may learn something!

There are two things in life I have a hard time turning an eye from, technology and flying. I am a certified Private Pilot, and this episode covers the basics of general aviation and shows off all the new technology in small aircraft. I had the help of Don Weaver, who runs a fractional share (www.optair.com) of several Cirrus SR22's, which has been the best selling single engine piston aircraft for a number of years now. You will be amazed at how technically advanced this aircraft is and how it rivals the technology in a lot of the big airliners flying today.

There's about ~25mins of interview with Don talking about general aviation, followed by another ~25mins of a demo flight where we do a "round robin" to a few airports in the local area. We shoot an instrument approach and go to a small field as well.

This episode has been in the works for a few months and has been plagued by technical issues (like dropping / breaking my HV20 just before shooting!), timing and weather... there is A LOT of room for improvement, so if there is interest on the subject, maybe I will do a small in-depth series. I just had get out what I had and move on... So sit back and enjoy, it's a long one!

Happy New Year! I trust everyone had a wonderful holiday, I know I did... As I look back on all the visits with friends and family, I realize that I answered a lot of tech questions in the past couple weeks. So, today I thought it would be good to share a couple that stuck in my mind.

First I talk about the digital copies that are shipping in some Blu-Ray and Standard Def DVD's. I walk through the process of transferring them to your Mac and Windows based systems. I also cover aspect ratios... Aunt Mildred still didn't understand why she has black bars on her new widescreen television. Sit back and ring in the new year with some tech tips!

This is the third and final part of the "Tricks of the Trade" series. In this episode I discuss video compression and also touch on the different ways I publish That's Awesome.TV to the web. Everything from bitrates to aspect ratios to video codecs. After viewing this there will be no excuses for publishing low quality videos to the web. Sit back and enjoy, it's a lot of information, but hopefully educational.

In this episode (part 2 of 3), I cover all of the post processing that is involved prior to compression. I discuss ripping the footage, rough cutting, keying and editing. All of these processes are shown through a screencast. You will see the show being produced using apps like Final Cut Pro, Motion, etc... Keep in mind, there ARE many other ways to preform these same tasks. If someone knows of a different/easier way(s), I would love the your feedback!

This weeks episode is the start of a three part series called "Tricks of the Trade". The number one email I receive from viewers pertains to my studio setup. Everything from: "What camera do you use?", "What software...?", "What type of compression?", etc. In response, I have decided to do a series about everything that's involved with shooting, producing and publishing That's Awesome.TV. That's right, I'm tipping my cards for everyone to see!

This first installment has to do with the hardware I use. This includes my camera, mic, lighting and more. The second part will deal with software and post processing and the third will be about compression and publishing. Follow along, and you too can produce your own show!

This week I apply a software mod to my Nintendo Wii that enables DVD playback. I realize this is kind of old news, but when I finally got around to playing with it, I couldn't find a real good tutorial. I kind of pieced together my own resources (pretty much from the wiki) and created this episode to show all the necessary steps. I know, I know, you probably don't need another DVD player (a sub par one at that), but at least this will show you what is involved if you're interested... and it just may open a whole new world to you, in the form of the Homebrew channel!

In this weeks episode I show you the power of dual booting your Apple hardware. Running Windows and OS X together on the same machine. You will see this working in Parallels, which is a commercial virtualization software. I will also show you how to boot Windows natively using Boot Camp, which is a utility built right into OS X. It's a lot of information, so sit back and relax. And as always, if I missed a good tip or other important information, please send me an email or post it on my blog.

In this episode I explore the inside of my dishwasher (for real). Earlier this week I broke the handle that locks the door, so I decided to dig around and fix it myself. I will also show you an awesome resource on the web to locate and buy parts for your home appliance(s). So come along on my "house call" and see how easy it can be to fix things around your house!

In this episode I step through (via a screencast) setting up and securing a wireless router, specifically a Linksys. But have no fear, all the concepts discussed can be applied to any manufacturer, I just happen to own a Linksys. I cover things like DHCP, DNS, WPA, WEP and port forwarding. It's a lot of information, but hopefully its all useful and you will be more comfortable managing your own network. If you're a network Guru, this show is NOT for you? but if you're new on the scene, or your friends/parents are, this may be an awesome starting point.
