While the rest of the week, we've talked about some of the highlights for Black Friday, leave it to the downers like John Biggs from CrunchGear and Seth Porges from Popular Mechanics to rain on the crazy parade. We talk about the quality of Black Friday gadgets, the ones to avoid, and the ones you should really be looking out for.

Hulu just gained a lot of new viewers in the fall season and TiVo lost many subscribers. Coincidence? We don't think so. Find out more in the video. Distributed by Tubemogul.
By techvi

One of the categories we've been fawning over for the entire year is e-readers. Their lovely e-ink displays are so easy on the eyes that with the holidays approaching, we wanted to pick the perfect unit. To do that, Eric Sandine, Iyaz Akhtar and myself strike up a convo about the ones that we're most excited about, and the ones we're least likely to pick up. The downside? Some of them still haven't officially hit the streets, or aren't available because they're sold out. The upside? We're still going to talk about our favs, in hopes we'll get some sort of holiday IOU, or the like.
Avaak Vue: A review of the personal video network

Gadgethounds with a penchant for being nosy might want to give a look toward Avaak's non-security cam solution called the Vue. The $300 system, which comes with a base station and two cameras, will wirelessly stream video to the internet, allowing approved users to log in to a site and view live video feeds.

The downside? There's no real reason to record, since the recording can't be triggered by a motion sensor, meaning you'd have hours of (likely) useless footage. Also, there's no audio either, but 'dems 'de breaks if you're looking for an inexpensive, tiny, wireless security system.

Check the video for Iyaz's full take, since he's had a few weeks to play with the units. Distributed by Tubemogul.
By techvi

http://tcvi.me/blackfriday

Tis the season for gadgets, and while Turkey day is Thursday, gadget gurus know Friday is the annual free-for-all for the Christmas season. What are some of the big presents under the tree this year? We ask Christina Warren from Mashable, and our own Iyaz Akhtar.
Apple's iPhone app store set the bar for mobile development, but its been marred with drama between the people developing the applications and Apple itself. We talk to two developers who've both had apps rejected for various reasons about the process. Does the app store process work? Are developers getting fed up? More importantly, what can the company do to fix the drama and make peace with the developers who are frustrated? We ask Saverio Mondelli from Enormego, and Greg Smith of Privus Mobile.
ATI Radeon 5970 is the foot-long GPU champ: HotHardware

We sit down with our buddies from HotHardware, like we do every week, to talk graphic cards this time around. First on the list? ATI's gigantic Radeon 5970, which other than topping performance charts, also tips the price scales more than most cards. On the cheap end of the spectrum, we break down a new card from Zotac which is a low-power unit capable of fitting in well to a home theater without breaking the bank. Also, Adobe has added hardware acceleration support in its latest build of Flash, which is perfect for lower-end computers to play back hi-def Flash content. And, MSI has come out with a desktop that fits that mold really well, which has a touchscreen, Nvidia ION processor, and comes in at about $750. Check the show for the full details. Iyaz talked a little earlier about the drama surrounding AT&T and Verizon, but when it comes right down to it, what do the guys who know what they're talking about think of the two companies? We ask Matt Buchanan from Gizmodo and Ross Rubin of The NPD Group exactly who wins this epic battle of cell phone supremacy.
Awards season, mini phones and Pirate Bay drama

This week, our ol' chaps from over the pond (that is what they're called, right?) check in to speak of the unspeakable drama going on at The Pirate Bay. Not unspeakable because it's dramatic, scary or obscene, but it's just unspeakable because... well... explaining the situation gives us a bit of a headache. We'll let Duncan expound on how pirate visitors to The Pirate Bay actually might have a better shot at getting away with it.

Also, Dan chimes in on a notable trend, specifically the trend toward creating a "mini phone." In essence, the netbook / laptop relationship has extended to the mobile space, where less expensive smartphone handsets are starting to roll out in tandem with their bigger brethren. Phones like the Pixi and the Palm Pre, among others. What's with the fad, and is it worth buying into?

Lastly, it's award season over at Pocket-Lint, and besides the requisite champagne dreams after winning a Pocket-Lint-ie (that's not what they're called), the guys explain some of their favs including a piece of software getting some U.K. buzz that soon could be coming stateside.

Also, give us feedback if you've got it. pocketlintshow@techvi.com. We'd love to hear what you think of the show. Distributed by Tubemogul.
By techvi
