Le retour de la vidéo sur l'iPhone

Un carcast pour parler de l'arrivée de plusieurs solutions vidéo sur l'iPhone avec Flix Wagon, Qik également mais aussi Cycorder qui fait dans la compression directe. Occasion de signaler la mise à jour sur le nouvel os iPhone (2.x) de iPhoneVideoRecorder. Pour pas mal de ces outils, l'installation passe par cydia, l'autre façon de mettre de nouvelles applis dans votre téléphone.
Petite piqure de rappel:

* iPhoneVideoRecorder, première "véritable" solution tierce d'enregistrement de vidéo sur l'iPhone, déjà présente sur la version 1.1.4 de l'os de l'iPhone
* flixwagon, première solution publique proposée pour du streaming video live depuis son iPhone (solution dépourvue pour l'instant de fonction de chat en live)
* cycorder, de quoi enregistrer vos vidéos dans une qualité plus performante et avec une compression faite directement lors de la capture. A ce jour, il n'existe pas de solution "non-geek" pour récupérer ces vidéos sur un autre support.
* Qik, encore besoin de le présenter ? Arrive enfin sur l'iPhone pour de la vidéo streamée en live avec du chat, belle interface et une qualité de vidéo acceptable pour l'instant

Je reviendrais sur ces différentes solutions avec des images à la clé pour juger sur pièce et surtout les éprouver sur plusieurs jours d'utilisation. Keep in touch!

Marc Andreesen and and Ben Horowitz Invest in Mobile Video Streaming Company Qik

Netscape founder and prolific entrepreneur Mark Andreesen and his long time business partner Ben Horowitz are making an investment in Qik, the Foster City-based mobile video streaming platform. Terms of the investment have not been disclosed.

Qik, pronounced "quick," has recently opened to public use. To get an update on how the service is being used and by whom, I interviewed co-founder Bhasker Roy in Manhattan in July and republished the interview today.

Microsoft Makes Investment in Move Networks: Beet.TV Has Early Preview from Microsoft on Collaboration

Not surprising that Microsoft will be a strategic investor in Move Networks, the small Utah startup which has introduced a new way to stream high quality online video through a process called adaptive streaming.

In April at NAB in Las Vegas, I interviewed Microsoft's Steve Skleplowich about the newly announced alliance between Microsoft and Move. He explains what a future alliance will mean -- it's all about Silverlight.

You can see this in action now, with the Democratic National Convention streaming live high quality video. Before you watch you are asked to download both the Move or Silverlight plug-ins.

Live Video Streaming via iPhone Demoed by Flixwagon

LOS ANGELES - Flixwagon, the Boston/Tel Aviv-based developer of live mobile video streaming technology, is streaming live video on an Apple iPhone, on a demonstration basis.

The application works on an unlocked iPhone for the moment, which means it is not practical for most users. The company hopes this demonstration will lead to integration into the popular Apple device. Right now, the only phones which support live video streaming from Flixwagon are the Nokia running on the Symbian OS.

Yesterday in Los Angeles at the OnHollwyood conference, I interviewed Sarig Reichert, co-founder Flixwagon.

Sarig sent me this link with a few videos broadcast with an iPhone. These videos were done in the Flixwagon labs using an unlocked iPhone. BTW: Sarig says the company is not encouraging users to unlock their iPhones. But, it evidently works.

A few months ago, Logitech announced their new QuickCam Vision Pro which is specifically designed for OS X. Many of us were skeptical, since Logitech already had the exact same device for Windows, at a cost of $30 less. What gives?

Move Networks Powers Surging ABC.com and is Now Supporting Live Programming

It's not Adobe's Flash, Apple's QuickTime or Microsoft's Silverlight. It's a technology called adaptive streaming, developed by a small Utah start-up called Move Networks, and it's revolutionizing the way that online video is being delivered and watched by millions.

ABC Television implemented the technology as its primary video distribution platform. Last month ABC reported a huge spike in online traffic, and ABC/Disney digital chief Albert Chang attributes some of the growth to the ABC player powered by Move.

Last week at the AlwaysOn conference at Stanford, I spoke with CEO John Edwards who explains how Move works.

He told me that live streaming is a growing area for Move. Broadcasters have used the technology recently to stream ESPN 360, the live Oprah event, the British Open and Masters.

Live Video Streaming Start-up Mogulus Gets $10 Million Investment from Gannett

Mogulus, the New York-based start-up which provides individuals and enterprises a platform to stream live quality Flash video, has raised $10 million in the form of a minority stake from Gannett. The company had previously raised $2.7 in early seed funding.

Although terms of the investment have not been disclosed, Beet.TV has confirmed the amount of the investment, following the initial reports earlier today from Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.

Beet.TV has used Mogulus to stream live from several events including NAB and Streaming Media East.

At NAB in Las Vegas this past May, I interviewed founder and CEO Max Haot who announced the new professional product line launch. (This interview was originally streamed live from Las Vegas. It was recorded to tape and edited for later publication.)

Congrats to Max and the team at Mogulus.

Kyte Sails in a Different Direction Than Qik, Flixwagon

There's been a lot of speculation in the blogosphere lately about whether Kyte, Qik,or Flixwagon will finish first in the cell phone video streaming trifecta.

But according to Kyte CEO Daniel Graf, Kyte's broader focus means it's not really in the race with Qik and Flixwagon.

Kyte is focused on a different market, partnering with entertainment companies MTV Europe and KROQ and working with artists from the four major record labels (Universal, Sony, EMI and Warner). It also will support any type of video content, whether online, mobile, live or recorded, while Qik and Flixwagon are primarily concerned with the live cell phone streaming of individual users.

Kyte also lets users embed branded, automatically updating players on their websites and allows fans watching a channel on different sites to chat. So the thousands of fans watching 50 Cent's Kyte channel on Facebook, 50cent.com, and MySpace can form a cross-platform community.

Kyte's big-name deals, broader production focus and better distribution sure make it seem like they're beating Qik and Flixwagon. FastCompany TV founder Robert Scoble thought so; he named Kyte the winner in a much-discussed guest blog at TechCrunch.

Of course, Qik and Flixwagon are still alpha testing and Kyte's Mobile Producer is in private beta, so it's too early to declare the race over. All three sites will undoubtedly make exciting progress in the coming weeks.
