Happy New Year friends and fans! We've wanted to do a Pinot Gris episode for a while, so we decided to avoid the cliche' bubbly tonight, and taste a less popular varietal instead. A favorite of ours was in the mix, and we were both nervous that our previous impressions wouldn't hold up. But, that's part of the reason for doing it blind. The truth comes out! What was your landmark wine of 2009?

Episode 19: Blind California Cabernet Sauvignon

The blind Riesling show was received quite well, so Chas picked up 3 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon to do blind for this week's show. All three are around the $20 price point, which can typically be challenging for California Cab. All three happened to show well though, making for a fun show. Mike from Renaissance Wines in Orenco Station has been a good friend of ours through out our wine journey. We decided to do a show at his shop to showcase some interesting sparkling wines, and to give him a chance to share his thoughts with you guys as well. We taste 3 cremants; #1: Jaillance Crémant de Bordeaux Cuvée de l'Abbaye, #2: Langlois Château Crémant de Loire Brut, and #3: Lucien Albrecht Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé. What is your favorite sparkling wine moment? NOTE! We shot this during business hours, and there is a lot of background noise. I decided to post it despite this, to share the event. Thank you for your patience while we work with cheap equipment, and learn how to set things up better.

We continue on the hunt for a truly exceptional American riesling. There must be some out there! We also decided to taste them blind so that the "reserve" bottling didn't benefit from the name. While some were quite good, the search continues. We tasted the 2008 Arcane Cellars Willamette Valley riesling, the 2007 Brooks WV riesling, the 2006 Brooks Ara WV riesling, and the 2008 Siltstone Hyland Vineyard riesling.
