何謂「因果不空」？

净空法师主讲 - 学佛释疑 110 (20 Oct 2006) 問：下面第九個問題，請問何謂「因果不空」？答：因果為什麼不空？你們想想為什麼不空？分別、執著沒有放下，當然就不空。譬如說某人跟我過不去，懷恨在心；懷恨在心，將來以後總有報復，一遇到機會他就報，那就冤冤相報。你報的時候，他也不甘心，他並沒有說「我過去欺負你，你今天欺負我，算了，拉平」，結就解開了；他並不是這麼想，他說「你欺負我，我還要報復你」，所以冤冤相報沒完沒了，彼此雙方都痛苦。這叫不覺，它就不空。哪個人要是覺悟了，「算了，我就受了！下次我不再報復他」，這個結就解開了。你從這個地方去想，你就知道因果為什麼不空？分別執著沒有斷。分別執著斷了，因果就沒有了，冤冤相報就沒有了，討債還債也沒有了。所以六道裡面的因果，佛講得很清楚，雖然很多，但是總歸納起來不外乎四種，討債、還債、報恩、報怨，就這四種。人跟人之間一生的相處，就是這四種緣。你走到馬路上，有個人看你很順眼，對你笑笑、點點頭，也許一生就這麼一次，下次再遇不到了，那是什麼？都是過去生中的善緣。有人看你不順眼，瞪你一眼，過去生中有惡緣，這我們常常遇到！遇到這個情形，我們就想到佛在經上講的教誨，不要放在心上，對待一切眾生總是善意，總是有個感恩的心，這就對了。

净空法师主讲 - 学佛释疑 120 (24 Nov 2006) 問：底下第十一個問題，環保人員常常批評放生會破壞自然生態，威脅原棲息生物的生存空間，請問此說法是否正確？如何達到放生目的又不會干擾原棲息物種？答：放生要調查，你在什麼地方放？這個地方合不合適？既不干擾原地的這些生物，同時你放的生物，牠也能夠生存，不是隨便去放；隨便去放，這不負責任。所以這有時候會造成過失，一定要先去調查，要放些什麼東西。實在講，現在的染污非常嚴重，水有染污，空氣有染污，麻煩大。所以現在如其講放生，不如提倡護生，愛護動物。愛護動物最重要的是，不但不殺生，最好能做到不吃肉，這是對人身體真的是健康。不但是不吃肉，素食，我們提倡自己種菜。香港很困難，土地找不到，那有方法的話，往香港邊緣地區移民。我看跟深圳交界，還有那些山上沒有什麼人住，到那個地方，那就有地方種菜。香港人口是太多，全世界聞名，全世界最擁擠的都市，排名第一是香港。外國人很佩服，他說一般人很難忍受，中國人能忍受得了。

净空法师主讲 - 学佛释疑 120 (24 Nov 2006) 問：第五個問題，緣生法都無自性，請問「無自性」該如何解釋？無自性是否就是性空的意思？答：沒錯，無自性確實是性空。無自性，你要注意到，那裡頭重要的一個字是「自」，不是它沒有性，它說無自性，你要懂這個道理。自是什麼？自是分別執著。沒有分別執著，那就是真性。一切法性現識變，它怎麼能沒有性？所以這個性叫法性，大乘教裡叫法性。所有一切的物，現相，都有法性，沒有法性就不可能有現相。但是你不能說它自性，自性什麼？那只有這個性有，其他的跟它就不一樣，那就錯了。這個性是跟一切萬物同一個性。我們再用一個比喻來說，大家好懂一點，古德常用金跟金器，金就是性，器就是物，譬如我們用黃金做一個手鐲，做一個項鍊，做許多不同的器皿，你要問這些器皿的性（就是它的體）是什麼？全是黃金。你可不能說我這個項鍊，黃金是我這項鍊的自性，既然是項鍊的自性，就不能做其他的。這是我的自性，怎麼能變成他的？所以他無自性，不是沒有性，這個關鍵就是那個「自」，沒有自。沒有自是什麼？同一個法性，道理在這個地方。所以說「性空」，性能現相，因為這個性它不是精神也不是物質。性空這兩個字，關鍵在空這個字，空不當作無，我們一般人講空，什麼都沒有了，不是這個意思；空，有，它能現。為什麼說它空？因為它不是物質，我們眼睛看不見，耳朵也聽不到，六根統統接觸不到，所以說它做空，是這個意思。它如果變成相，叫做法相，整個宇宙一切萬物總稱為法相。我們這一切人，芸芸眾生，這都是法相。法相是法性現的，相千變萬化，那是妄想分別執著產生的作用。妄想分別執著叫識，妄想是阿賴耶，執著是末那，分別是意識，在唯識裡面就講得清楚，分析得很清楚，這些東西能變。所有宇宙萬物，在佛法講，這個現相就是阿賴耶的相分，我們現在科學裡面講的物質。物質是從性顯現，識產生變化，是這麼一回事情。這是講宇宙的現相，無論是大宇宙，無論是小宇宙，沒有例外的。小宇宙，佛講微塵，我們今天講的原子、電子、粒子，甚至現在講更小的夸克，小宇宙。小宇宙跟大宇宙是一不是二，性相同，性德也相同，性的作用也相同，無二無別。宇宙怎麼來的？現在的科學家，很多科學家都承認，因為從這科學儀器裡去觀察，宇宙不斷在膨脹。膨脹的現象，大概都是爆炸，所以很多科學家都認為宇宙的形成是在多少億年、幾百億年前爆炸，這麼產生的。這個說法，你要細心去想想，有毛病，到底什麼東西爆炸？是一次爆炸還是多次連續爆炸？問題就很多了。佛經上佛不是這個說法，佛說沒有爆炸，怎麼來的？《楞嚴經》上講得好，「當處出生，隨處滅盡」，這個說法，現在科學家也把它證實。我們看是證實，科學家不知道，因為科學家沒有看過佛經，他不曉得。這就是這個現相，我們今天所看到的現相確實相似相續，絕對不是一個現相它的相續，相似相續，是一個一次一次的現相都不相同，都是個獨立的。所以它是當處出生，隨處滅盡，這就是現在科學發現的，物質不存在，物質是無中生有。現在科學講宇宙萬有的本體，他們用的名詞叫場，場是什麼？場是能量非常稀薄的時候，能量集中它就變成物質，就產生物質現象。物質現象一產生，像閃電一樣，比閃電還快，閃電一樣，物質出現，出現立刻就沒有，但是它又會現；但是現的時候，後面現的不是前面的，不同的。它能不斷的在現，而且速度非常快速，我們一般人就以為真的有物質，其實物質不存在。這是《般若經》上常說的「凡所有相，皆是虛妄」，這句話說得非常之好，「當處出生，隨處滅盡」，這把宇宙的真相說出來。你了解這個，你才知道真正佛與法身菩薩他們境界裡頭，「一切法無所有，畢竟空，不可得」。你了解這個境界，你才真的萬緣放下，一塵不染了。萬緣放下，一塵不染，你自性裡面無量的智慧現前，無量的德能現前，無量的相好現前，不用修，不用求。我們今天為什麼得不到？就是我們不肯放下，我們還要認真努力去求，愈求愈糟糕，愈求愈迷惑，不肯放下。放下是你自性的智慧德能現前，放不下，那是你眼前所求的一點知識，這個知識都是錯誤的，都不是真的，這個道理深！這個道理世間沒有，只有大乘教裡頭有。我們幸運遇到是很不容易的事情，這叫「百千萬劫難遭遇」。遇到之後，你怎麼樣能得到？放下就得到。關鍵的是你不肯放下，那有什麼法子？放下貪瞋痴慢，貪瞋痴慢是什麼？執著，執著裡頭的一部分。你全體都放下，恭喜你，你阿羅漢果，六道沒有了。放下執著就是放下六道，六道輪迴是假的不是真的，像作夢一樣，真的醒過來了，夢境沒有了。
