From the HawaiiVog archives (April 16, 2008). Saturday in Hilo. We hit Ken's House of Pancakes before the long, long drive up the Hamakua Coast, through Waimea/Kamuela, past Kawaihae to my grandfather's grave in Kapa`au. Then we went to Hapuna Beach.

Hilo Takeoff

A short addition to my kids' collection of airplane takeoff videos. Departing Hilo International Airport (ITO) aboard go! Airlines flight 1039 on Wed., Jan. 2, 2008. It's an unusually clear day for the often gray and wet east side of the Big Island. Despite a dirty window and the glare of the sun, the view of the Hamakua Coast and Mauna Kea is impressive.
