Appunti per un documentario. di Paolo Casalis e Stefano Scarafia Un piccolo paese delle Langhe, per secoli povero e isolato, si apre al mondo nel suo momento più tragico: la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. La nostra Storia, raccontata da chi l’ha vissuta in prima persona. “Mi chiedo come abbiamo fatto a diventare così vecchi con le vitacce grame che abbiamo fatto da giovani” Carlo Fava, 91 anni, Verduno Verduno, la “Sentinella delle Langhe”, è un piccolo paese di collina, poche case e cascine riunite attorno a un campanile. Oggi rinomata meta turistica per i suoi vini e per la qualità di una vita semplice, a stretto contatto con la terra e con i suoi prodotti, il Paese ha vissuto in passato momenti di estrema povertà e durezza: la guerra, la miseria, l’occupazione tedesca e la guerra partigiana, la fame, la fillossera (un insetto che attacca le radici delle viti europee distruggendo irrimediabilmente interi raccolti). Sono ricordi di cui non rimangono tracce visibili tra i vigneti ordinati e ben tenuti, le case recentemente restaurate, le osterie e i ristoranti che attraggono turisti da ogni parte. Ricordi, tradizioni e costumi che sembrano appartenere a epoche lontane, mentre invece sono ancora ben vivi nella memoria degli anziani del paese, i protagonisti di una Storia ancora tutta da raccontare. E’ il momento di ascoltare.
