In heilenden und helfenden Berufen geschieht es häufig, dass Menschen sich durch übergroßes Engagement ein "Burnout-Syndrom" einhandeln. Burnout ist mehr als Stress, der als Eustress - positiver Stress - durchaus wichtig ist. Burnout dagegen ist das Ende eines schleichenden Entwicklungsprozesses von unverarbeitetem, akkumuliertem, andauerndem, negativen Stress (Distress). Die Entwicklung von Burnout hat 4 Phasen: Enthusiasmus, Stagnation, Frustration, Resignation. Burnout hat neben den psychischen Folgen auch körperliche Auswirkungen, wie z.B. Veränderung der Zusammensetzung des Blutes, vermehrte anhaltende Adrenalin- und Cortisol-Ausschüttung, Antriebslosigkeit, Ermüdung, vorzeitige Alterung durch Schädigung des Immunsystems als Folge anhaltenden Stress, erhöhtes Risiko für Herzinfarkte, Magen-Darm-Erkrankungen und Diabetes. Burnout ist heute oft auch die Folge institutioneller Rahmenbedingungen, wie Rationalisierungen, Umstrukturierungsmaßnahmen, Personalabbau, vermehrtem bürokratischen Aufwand, Einführung neuer Technologien, geringer Handlungsspielraum bei hoher Verantwortung. Aber auch individuelle Rahmenbedingungen wie Über- oder Unterforderung, dauerhafte hohe berufliche und/oder private Anforderungen, unspezifische Aufgaben, Konflikte am Arbeitsplatz, unpersönliche Arbeitsatmosphäre, wenig Bestätigung und Wertschätzung tragen zur Entwicklung des Burnout-Syndroms bei. Dr. Beate Hofmeister stellt fünf Nothelfer vor, um sich vom Stressgedanken weg zu fokussieren: Bewegung, Disziplin, Sinnlichkeit, Licht und Luft, Beschäftigung des Gehirns mit entspannenden Symbolen. Wichtiger noch sind aber natürlich langfristige individuelle Bewältigungsstrategien. Überprüfen Sie Ihre Glaubenssätze in Bezug auf das Arbeitsleben und das Leben im Allgemeinen. First Survey of IC Patients Reveals Emotional Distress Associated with Frequently Misdiagnosed ConditionThe National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Womens Health (NPWH) today announced Wednesday, October 31st as the first annual National Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Awareness Day. To mark the day, NPWH, with support from Ortho Womens Health & Urology, revealed the results of the first survey of IC patients highlighting their frustration and despair, and new educational resources to help women recognize and manage their symptoms.Results from the survey, available on AllAboutIC.com, showed that respondents expressed very high levels of emotional distress. Nearly all respondents 95 percent felt frustrated from dealing with IC and its symptoms. Most said they had been annoyed or angry (85 percent), 75 percent reported feeling depressed, and more than two thirds (67 percent) felt alone/isolated and embarrassed.
