A cash economy is what’s very typical of most businesses – you exchange cash for some other goods, whether that’d be carrots, an ebook, or some sort of coaching program. Plain and simple, cut and dry. However, when it comes to a gift economy, things aren’t so clearly defined… cash is put away and in its place, we have relationships, favors, and valuable advice. We operate on building trust and friendship with each other and out of that, we create the desire and willingness to do more favors for each other. In a gift economy, when the focus is taken away from “buying and selling” and more on just connecting with people, the “buying and selling” happens naturally and automatically when the appropriate desire takes place. And that desire… is created by you. The way you want to operate in a gift economy is by dripping value on people… by doing favors for others for free over time and (this is important) not demand nor expect anything in return.
