UK's Top Window Dressers Revealed In Retail 'Skills Olympics' 2009 Final

The nation's best window dressers were revealed at the finale of UK-wide window dressing competition. Launched by Mary 'Queen of Shops' Portas, the final saw the best student and professional visual merchandisers from across the UK create window displays against the clock and judged by industry professionals at the annual event at London's Olympia. As the Sector Skills Council called on retailers to continue investing in their skills to help them prepare for the economic upturn the accolade of the nation's most highly skilled window dressers (Visual Merchandising) was given to Rachel Love Cameron and Sara Walsh of the stylish Belfast store Avoca. They wowed judges with their fantasy 'teatime' display, beating the two other finalists in the retail category from Marmalade in Axminster, Devon and Swarovski in Dundee. In a tough economic period for retail, this competition was a timely reminder how important visual merchandising can be. Visual merchandisers across the UK can change the fortunes of any shop with the people behind the displays being the unsung heroes of retail! With an estimated 22,000 visual merchandisers in the UK the, significance of skilling up in this role is further evident. As well as finding the UK's best visual merchandisers, skillVM could also prove the springboard to success on a global level with the WorldSkills competition coming to London in 2011. FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE SKILLS COMPETITION: Now in its second year, the skillVM (Skillsmart Retail's Visual Merchandising Competition) competition is organised and run by Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail. Visteon workers fight for a better deal

As Britain heads deeper into recession and unemployment rises, this WORLDbytes report is a timely example of a group of workers at a car-parts manufacturing company who decided to take matters into their own hands and not accept a derisory redundancy deal. WORLDbytes reporter Luke Gittos interviews workers and supporters directly after they leave the occupation at the Visteon plant in Enfield. The report captures the mood at the time: a great uncertainty about what the future holds, yet a demonstration of the hope and defiance that ultimately led Visteon bosses to meet their demands. As Paul Walker, a young father who worked at the plant for 21 years, explains: “We’re here for justice. We’re here for ourselves. We were all there for each other and we kept each other strong. I think something good will come out of all this.”

Chemtrails

Hello I recently witnessed a plane creating what could possible ( how can i know for sure unless i was the one responsible?) of been Chemtrails over Belfast on Sunday 4th April at around 7.30 am onwards. The sky was perfectly blue with just a few very small thin normal clouds and there was no wind at ground level but as the the plane made its passes the sky was slowly turned white from the horizon up. I managed to take some pictures using a camera phone but it was hard to get a clear picture they will be below this text so you can see them. Later that day we drove towards Newcastle (NI) and could see the same or probably another plane creating more trails. If anyone else saw these or knows where the planes are coming from etc or has any opinions about this please get in touch either through here or my Blog site(see below).
