Stratton Mountain Legend - Emo Henrich Remembered

As the first director of the Stratton Mountain Ski School, Emo Henrich nurtured generations of young ski instructors. Emo brought Austrian culture to Vermont skiing, along with dozens of Austrian instructors each year. Being from Tyrol, Austria, Emo started the Stratton Mountain Boys, an internationally-renowned musical group that sang and played music from his native Tyrol. He played with the group for decades, playing guitar, singing, dancing.

I headed to the Boston Globe Ski and Snowboard Expo with the intention of stopping in briefly at the Vermont skiing media reception, representing my station, NECN. As a skier, you can imagine this meteorologist's excitement when I got the opportunity to meet and interview FOUR Olympians - Ross Powers (2002 Olympic gold medalist in the half-pipe and two time Olympian), Donna Weinbrecht (Olympic gold medalist in the mogul skiing event in 1992), Fuzz Feddersen (Olympic aerial skier extraordinaire who now showcases that talent as The Flying Ace All-Stars aerobatics extravaganza), and the one and only Ski Hall of Famer Tommy Moe (a double Olympic medal winner, downhill gold and Super G silver at Lillehammer, Norway, 1994)! What an amazing experience to meet these four friendly, warm, down-to-earth yet out-of-this-world talented athletes - I had to share it with you!
