Second... on top of the prep show... we needed to give you the Top 10 foods you'll always find in our kitchen.

The criteria for this was simple...

1. The food is always in our kitchen.

2. It has to be a perishable (not a spice or anything dried)

This is NOT a list of the healthiest foods on earth or anything like that. Many people ask us what we eat and from this list, you'll get a pretty good idea!

We ALSO prepare and awesome raw herb-crusted portobello mushroom steak that has a pine nut cheese topping. It tastes awesome and is amazing for outdoor raw or vegan "barbecues". We got this recipe from GoneRaw.com, a great source for raw recipes! (Actually it looks like Rhio is the author of this one.)

Fact: Frequency and power are two separate things. Something can operate on a frequency. The amount of POWER required is something a little different. Wherever this information came from is flawed for this very FACT.
As well, one cannot compare a microwave to a cell phone or Bluetooth for that matter because the POWER required is significantly more. Example a modern day microwave that cooks food requires 1100 watts. However, the Bluetooth signal at 1 milliwatt is extremely low (hence the lower range), compared to some cell phones, which may emit up to 3 watts. The signal is also transmitted throughout a space and not in a single, powerful beam. Bluetooth radiation is considered far less bothersome than cell phone radiation. Do you see why Bluetooth could Not have the implications these idiots are saying?
I want to be clear: because something operates on the same frequency does not mean that it has the power to COOK. Ultimately that is what radiation is.

This next statement takes the wind out of anyone’s sails who thinks a headset with a wire is better than Bluetooth, because the fact is the wire IS an antenna!
“What about using a hands-free kit to keep the phone away from my head?
Answer: Hands-free kits are currently used for convenience, by law in some states while driving a vehicle and mostly by concerned cell phone users who want to keep the phone away from their head because of concern about radiation. However in studies and tests of many of the hands-free kits by scientists and consumer groups in Europe, they found that the wire from the ear piece acts as an aerial and actually increases the radiation by three times.”

In a study done jointly by U.S. and Danish researchers the offspring of mothers who used a cell phone during pregnancy showed a dramatic increase in behavior issues such as hyperactivity and emotional problems.

The cell phone only had to be used two or three times a day during the pregnancy so it wasn't as if these moms were spending hours and hours on their cell phones. Translation: it didn't take much "exposure" in the way of proximity to cause this.

And get this. Among those children who had also used a cell phone by age 7 the incidence of behavior problems was 80% higher!

Researchers were completely surprised and have no explanation for the findings at this point. It isn't a proximity issue for the fetus since the majority of mothers carried their cell phones in a bag or purse during their pregnancy and not on their bodies. So it apparently has nothing to do with how close the phone was to the body.

The study also showed these children were 25% more at risk for emotional problems, 34% more likely to have difficulties relating to their peers, 35% more likely to be hyperactive, and 49% more likely to have conduct problems.

It's also worth noting in this study that 30% of Danish seven-year olds were already using a cell phone! That's right! 30%! Now why does a seven-year old need a cell phone in the first place?

I hope you'll share this information with all the pregnant moms you know.

FYI the study is scheduled to be published in the July 2008 issue of the journal Epidemiology.

Next time you can't get a cell phone signal in the middle of town, put your problem in perspective: New figures show that the deadliest job in America now goes to the men and women who construct, upgrade, and repair cell phone towers.
According to a story in this week's RCR Wireless News (no online link yet), building and climbing towers (which can be hundreds of feet tall) is more dangerous than ranching, fishing, logging, and even ironworking. The fatality rate is currently 183.6 deaths per 100,000 workers: Five tower workers died during one 12-day span earlier this year alone. 18 tower workers died on the job in 2006.
The cause for the runup in tower worker deaths isn't completely clear, but it's likely a combination of careless working practices (workers not using safety gear 100 percent of the time, or not using it correctly) and network operators pushing to build out and upgrade their networks too quickly. Hard to blame carriers for wanting to get faster networks up and running, but not at the cost of human life. (RCR is careful to note that the investigation into the rise in fatalities is too early to attribute to any specific source.)
Oddly, a loophole in OSHA rules may make it difficult for changes to happen quickly: Towers are often constructed by small contractors instead of the carriers or the owners of the towers. Since the carrier isn't on site during the construction of the tower, the contractor receives the fine and the carrier and owner face no sanctions. (That hasn't stopped the families of some of the deceased workers from suing carriers, though.)
Up next: Workers and their unions are hoping to push through federal legislation which could lead to more thorough regulations covering safety in this largely ignored industry.

Silicon Alley Insider Raises Funds to Further Expansion

Congrats to Henry Blodget and the crew down the block at the Silicon Alley Insider. Henry announced that the new media/tech/finance blog has received funding.

Rafat Ali on paidContent reports that the amount is something under $ 1 million at a $6 million post money valuation, which actually is very close to the valuation of $5.4 million placed on it by 24/7 Wall Street in March.

I've republished my interview with SAI co-founder Kevin Ryan about the new publishing enterprise.
