In the fall of 2007 he became aware that he attained the rank of 98th most subscribed comedian of all times with 300 subscribers.  This spurred his competitive energy to rise in the totem pole.  At the point, he obviously was making no money on YouTube. Michael asks us to think about why is there so much great content that goes unnoticed.  He reiterates that strategic marketing is a commitment to core activities (PR bulletins, user engagement, observing new niches) that remains constant while content performance metrics may fluctuate.   So enjoy the marketing and business aspects of the challenge, and sink your teeth into them with gusto.   More importantly, he stresses that you should always love what you are creating.  While you may have an agent and an attorney, you also need to make yourself  comfortable with negotiation and making your own deal points. While he may have other deals (BlogTV, Sony, HBO, E!) come and go, and these may be worthwhile in their moment, Michael regards YouTube as his bread-and-butter, and dances with the one who brought him there.  His long-term vision is built around doing what he loves to do while thriving on the internet with "What The Buck".  He advises creators to value their own work,  brand, and reputation rather than be seduced by fast-buck propositions which lead to selling out on-the-cheap.  

Michael also emphasizes the importance of extending you brand and image in your blog.  Interestingly, it was when he began sharing personal aspects of his life through his blog that "What The Buck" zoomed in popularity.  Content creators, take heed!  While your content should be of high quality, remember that the audience wants a real person who engages with them.
