Episode 17: The Search For The Great American Riesling - 2

We continue on the hunt for a truly exceptional American riesling. There must be some out there! We also decided to taste them blind so that the "reserve" bottling didn't benefit from the name. While some were quite good, the search continues. We tasted the 2008 Arcane Cellars Willamette Valley riesling, the 2007 Brooks WV riesling, the 2006 Brooks Ara WV riesling, and the 2008 Siltstone Hyland Vineyard riesling. During the recent Wine Bloggers Conference, we had the pleasure to spend a day in the Napa Valley and visit Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars for lunch followed by a Napa Green presentation. Napa Green is a voluntary program developed by the Napa Valley Vintners that establishes comprehensive “best practices” in land-use and wine production. Vineyard manager Kirk Grace took us on a vineyard tour and discussed how Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars handles various environmental issues.
