About This Video
This is the story of Valerie, a California surfer who used contact lenses. After loosing here lenses when she wiped out on a wave, she was barely able to make out which way the shore was which scared her to death. She decided it was time to permanently do something about this so she decided to undergo a procedure that would implant contact lenses into her eyes.
Although LASIK is one of Dr. Feldman’s most sought after specialties, she knows that laser vision correction isn’t the best option for all her patients in the San Diego area. This can be true for a variety of reasons, including that particular patients may not be good candidates or may not want to have a laser vision correction surgery. Another surgical option made available to these patients by ClearView Eye and Laser Medical Center is implantable contact lenses (ICL).
Implantable contact lenses, also called phakic intraocular lens implants because they are implanted without removing your eye’s natural lens, can resemble regular contact lenses or crescent-shaped segments in shape. They can be used to effectively treat nearsightedness and are currently being developed to treat farsightedness
There are two types of implantable lenses approved by the FDA for vision correction currently: Verisyse implantable contact lenses and STAAR Visian implantable contact lenses.
