Launch of Kepler via Delta II Rocket on 03/07/09 (Full launch to SECO-1)

The Kepler telescope launched aboard a Delta II rocket on March 3rd, 2009 at 3:49am UTC. The Kepler Mission will use a space photometer developed by NASA to search for Earth-like planets orbiting other stars. It will observe the brightness of over 100,000 stars over 3.5 years to detect periodic transits of a star by its planets (the transit method). The mission is named in honor of Johannes Kepler. Kepler is a mission under NASA's Discovery Program of low-cost, focused science missions. NASA's Ames Research Center is the home organization of the science principal investigator and is responsible for the ground system development, mission operations and science data analysis. Kepler mission development is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. is responsible for developing the Kepler flight system.

Soyuz Expedition 18 launch - October 12th, 2008

The Expedition 18 / TMA-13 Soyuz Rocket launched on October 12th, 2008 at 7:01am UTC destined for the International Space Station. This is the full media event as seen on NASA TV. Liftoff occurs one hour in to the video, but there is some great video rolled throughout, so we decided to post the whole thing. SpaceX reaches orbit with Falcon 1 - Flight 4

SpaceX is the only private company to ever reach earth orbit with their Falcon 1 rocket. This is the FULL 40 minute webcast from about T-10 minutes until well after SECO. We didn't want to cut out the chorus of cheering after the SpaceX crew realized that they had just made history! While Scaled Composites did reach space twice and thus winning the Ansari X PRIZE, they did not actually reach orbit. The Falcon 1 with its simulated payload is the first private vehicle to reach orbit on Sunday September 28th, 2008 at 23:31 UTC. Space flight forever changed today.

Space Shuttle Atlantis and Endeavor on the pad at the same time - last time this will ever happen!

This is the last time two space shuttles are scheduled to be on both launch pads at the same time. This even has not happened since 2001, and it is a rarity that is an amazing sight. After Space Shuttle Atlantis launches (No earlier than October 14th, 2008) Space Shuttle Endeavour will be moved from pad 39B to pad 39A allowing NASA to retire pad 39B and redesign it for use on Constellation. Launch of the GeoEye-1 satellite aboard a Delta II Rocket

Launch of the GeoEye imaging satellite aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket. The GeoEye-1 satellite will provide extremely high resolution pictures to Google, most likely for use in their mapping products. Distributed by Tubemogul.

Arianespace launches Superbird-7 and AMC-21 successfully in to orbit

The Ariane 5 launched two satellites in to orbit on August 14th, 2007. The first was the Superbird-7 for Japanese operator Space Communications Corporation (SCC) and AMC-21 for American operator SES Americom. This launch happened at the spaceport is Kourou, French Guiana with a liftoff at 8:44pm UTC.

Arianespace launches Ariane-5 carrying ProtoStar 1 and BADR 6 satellites

Originally slated to launch on July 4th, 2008 this Arianespace Ariane-5 rocket ended up launch on July 7th, 2008 at 6:47pm local time in French Guiana. Twenty-seven minutes after its launch f the rocket released ProtoStar 1 the first satellite for the new U.S.-based telecommunications company ProtoStar. Eight minutes later, the rocket released a BADR-6 satellite for Arabsat, the 21-nation telecommunications group of the Arab League, that is designed for direct television broadcasting to the Middle East and North Africa.
