About This Video
I had only the Flip handy when the nuclear sirens started going off, so I went out on the porch to record them. In this video, you can hear them faintly in the background, behind the noisy prop plane that happened to be flying overhead at the time.
The large sirens are located throughout the area affected by the Limerick nuclear power plant. We live in the evacuation zone. In the event of a nuclear emergency, these sirens would go off and we'd tune in to the radio/TV to figure out what to do. In all likelihood, we'd all just start looting and otherwise running around screaming.
Why no panic now? Because every month, on the first Monday of the month at 2pm, they test the sirens. They don't bother to tell anyone this. Residents are used to it, especially those that work at home. But if you're passing through, you might be surprised. And I always catch a few people on Twitter by saying, "The nuclear alarm is going off again." Fun!
