Dr. Farish Ahmad-Noor is a Senior Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technical University (NTU), Singapore where he is Director of Research for the Research Cluster on Transnational Religion in Southeast Asia. He is also guest affiliated Professor at both Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) and Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University, Jogjakarta. He is the author of 'Writings on the War on Terror' (2006), 'From Majapahit to Putrajaya' (2005) and 'Islam Embedded: The Historical Development of PAS' (2004). He collects antiques for a hobby; travels dangerously to find himself and is taken for walks when he's been a good boy. He lives for the day when he will quit smoking for good. (Taken from The Other Malaysia). This video was taken at the CeritAku@Readings event held in March 2008 at No Black Tie, KL. It was a week before the 12th General Elections. Dr. Farish A. Noor talks about his religio-political studies in South-East Asia, particularly the conscious repression of the region's pre-Islamic history, and pleas for open dialogue and appreciation of the deep past in the nation-building context. Dr. Farish is introduced by CeritAku host and organiser, Bernice Chauly.

KL Poetry Slam 2: Jacob Sam-La Rose

Jacob Sam-La Rose is a poet, writer, playwright, performer and educator. A former Poet-in-Residence at BBC London, he is a touring writer with the British Council. His programme of international appearances has taken him as far afield as Kiasma - the Museum of Contemporary Art (Finland), Chicago State University, Mylos Theatre (Greece), the Center of Contemporary Art in Glasgow, No Black Tie (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, among many others. Brought to Malaysia for the second time by the British Council for a series of workshops with local poets in KL, Jacob performs during the intermission for the second KL Poetry Slam at The Loft@Zouk.
