Matthew Bellows puts together a good panel

This will be one of the last BREW videos, so we decided to go for the longest embedded video on a website, ever. Today's video is 45 minutes of Matthew Bellows' innovative panel discussion "Networked Games: It's Not Easy, But It's Possible". The panel was set up as a networked game and it worked. We had little communities set up where everyone in the community had a different role. Your job might be to push the discussion forward, keep it on track or be a little tangential. In the end, you collect points for doing your job and redeem them at the end for an amazing prize: a sticker. Matt said he was considering a better prize and I'm still wondering where it went. Bentley maybe?

Bowling with I-Play executives is way more fun than it sounds

We're just putting up the last of our BREW 2008 videos. In this video we go bowling with I-Play's Anders Evju and John Grotland. This was at the end of a long interview we did with them that was incredibly interesting and we'd love to share it with you except the laptop we were recording on went ka-poot. IUGO demos a sweet FPS at BREW 2008

Here we are playing a sweet FPS developed for the iPhone by IUGO. The game is really easy to use but the controls are uber sensitive. One of the beauties of this game is when you enter a room with an enemy, you automatically lock on and you just have to tap the screen to begin destroying it. Also, once locked on to an enemy, you tilt left and right to strafe around. Easy no?

Sonic Olympic games at their BREW 2008 booth

Here I am playing Sega's latest in the Sonic franchise at Sega's booth at BREW 2008. The game has simple controls and involves pressing one button to hit your targets and then up to jump. It took me a little while to figure out the "up" part so I was really terrible at the game. Even after I figured it out, I didn't realize you had to keep pressing it. So all in all, the game was good and simple, but I could have done with a "PRESS UP IDIOT!" warning on the screen.

Glu's Super Slam Ping Pong rules!

We went over to the Glu booth to say "what's up" and ask what's new from the mobile gaming geniuses. Their boy Kevin just looked at me with a kind of "oh, you haven't heard?" look and whipped out this little number. Super Slam Ping Pong takes after Super KO Boxing, marketing and strategy wise with its catchy name and pattern-style gaming. Just like Super KO, the characters all have tells, the graphics are beautiful, the gaming is amazing and I'm once again impressed. Nice work guys!

GestureTek at BREW 2008

Here I am at the GestureTek booth with Ed Fowler and Adam Schlegel. First, Ed shows off their super cool fitness game. The game recognizes how well you're doing your squats and allocates points accordingly. What good parent wouldn't buy this mobile game for their kid? After that we play some bowling, GestureTek style. The controls are really easy and feel just like bowling, without the heavy ball. Next we try Crash Bandicoot which is also really fun. You use the camera technology to drive a sled down the hill and collect points. Super hard but super awesome. Enjoy!

Qualcomm hires beard developer

I didn't even know there was such a job as a Beard Developer but this guy clearly knows his stuff. Qualcomm has gone on a spree of Beard Developer hirings because it's been seen as a corporation with not even facial hair. In the future, we'll start seeing "Net Facial Hair" or NFH, appear on the accounting sheets. Until then, lets just make stupid videos.

Guess whose sponsor won best up and coming company? QuicklyBored's that's whose! mSpot's Make-UR-Tones product, which allows you to make your own ringtones 100% legally, helped define them as innovators at the show. In this video, we start with the opening band at the awards which reminded me of The Strokes, if they were 40 years older. The audio isn't great but you get the idea. They won. It's amazing. I'm out.

IUGO demos its iPhone sandbox game at BREW 2008

IUGO is easily one of our favorite mobile game companies. Their CEO used to be a scientist working on virtual reality and he once stared directly into a giant frickin' laser beam. Also, their business development girl Sarah, has easily the coolest tattoo: Dark Side on her knuckles. We caught up with them at BREW and their boy Daniel showed me their 3D engine and some physics on the iPhone with a sandbox game. It's pretty cool and definitely has potential as more than a demo. I could see myself whipping this out and playing it while waiting for the bus. Can't you?More from IUGO and BREW 2008 to come!
