EmploymentCrossing.com Hero/Beech-Nut has announced it has started hiring 100 union workers for its new food manufacturing facility. The baby food maker is building a new 550,000 square foot plant in Montgomery County to replace the 100 year old facility in Canajoharie. The company intends to create 140 positions while maintaining 350 existing positions as part of the $124 million project. They will invest in training programs for the new workers to learn how to use new equipment the company describes as state of the art. Hero/Beech-Nut officials said the new employees will work out of the Canajoharie facility until the new plant, in the town of Florida, opens next year. Gov. David Paterson said in a statement, this is exactly the kind of public-private partnership we need to foster in New York State, and now we are seeing the return on that investment with real jobs for real people. Added Christoph Rudolf, company President: the bottom line is that we are already creating new local production jobs before even moving into the new facility
