A Family Weekend On Texel

On the first weekend of July I visited my parents who were vacationing on the island of Texel with their grandkids. This treasure of the north of the lowlands is also excellent for cycling, so I took my bike on the train & ferry and oozed off for an unwinding long weekend. Check it out.

Amsterdamize Bicycle TV : Riding With Marie

Yesterday morning I received an urgent e-mail from Mikael from Copenhagencyclechic.com saying that Marie, his co-blogger and Copenhagen Cycle Fashionista in crime had taken a one day detour to Amsterdam on her EuRail trip through Europe. He asked me to meet up with her, knowing very well we’d have a ball. And he was right, obviously. Marie is a sweetheart, great company and a hoot to ride around with. Naturally, I strategically whipped out my phone camera and recorded it all for digital eternity.

Mama Bakfiets Race

Bakfiets = Cargo bike Vondelpark, Amsterdam, May 18 2008Today I biked over to the Vondelpark to see if the announced Mama Bakfiets Race would be as much fun as the title promised it to be.Organized by Viva Mama Magazine as a charity event for OrangeBabies.nl (donating medicines to pregnant African women with HIV, thus reducing the chance that the infants are born with HIV by 50%), it was no bare bone event, everything was taken care of.I also bumped into Marlooz, whos was there for professional purposes, filming the event. As it was about a race between moms on bakfietsen, often with kids on board, through Vondelpark, going from leg to leg, I proposed she could hop on the back of my bike to continue filming, adding some action to her footage. Of course, you dont have to ask a Dutch girl twice, excellent idea.It was pretty amazing to see the moms agility on the mostly heavily packed bakfietsen while performing the stage tasks. Ranging from obstacle course to jousting. Yes, jousting. I shot some video of that, and heres the result, you be the judge:It was fun and truly a typical Dutch cycle phenomenon. Not something this blog was allowed to miss.
