It seems that floodplain maps only get updated about once in every 15 years. With the environment changing constantly, perhaps it should get updated more frequently. If floods do occur, it can result in substantial damages. Asides from floodplain maps, neighbourhood maps has also proven to be very important for homeowners, foreigners, etc. Without it, it'd be very difficult for people to move from one location to the next.
