That's my usual format too. I write very character-driven stories, to the point I have to be careful and often in edits will need to flesh out the world around them cause I spend so much time creating them and focusing on them, the world around them gets ignored. Tis one of my personal issues when I write.

If you do decide to have the dog as the main character, would you humanize him, or leave him very dog-like? If you do humanize him, to what degree? I think that if you're going for dark comedy, you should have him be humanized (to some degree or another), and give him this really cynical personality. That would amuse me because we always think of dogs as cute and playful and childlike. Just my own thoughts/curiousities... (i've decided that since I am not allowing myself to do any more planning on my novel, i'll plan other peoples, haha)
