Don't get me wrong, Like I said, I am not saying that it is not an issue, and there are places that do their job and do the studies needed to diagnose properly. But This is becoming a trend for doctors to just hand out this label. You can tell a difference from a kid that is truly autistic from a child that a doctor just claims is autistic. I am just afraid of where we are going to be in the next 20 years if this keeps happening. Soon, every one will be "autistic" and/or "Disabled". It is really sad.

I did a lot of work with autistic kids in the late 90's, and I never came across anyone who was diagnosed as such without warrant (of course, I mostly worked with extreme cases). What I did notice is that there were a number of kids labeled E.I., or emotionally impaired, who had behavioral problems. In my day, it was called "being naughty". They had their own classroom and were separated from the rest of the students. They also had a Super Nintendo that they could play if they were good. I'm not sure how much I would have gotten done in class if I was playing NBA Jam all the time.

You are absolutely right about this, a teacher I know sees this all the time, if the kid doesn't behave let's smack a Autist or ADD label on them, that way schools get more funding and we have a excuse not to teach them anything. Maybe it is time to retire the term ADD if so many people have it it might just be another kind of humans and not a decease.

haha, Yeah, I have always been a super multi tasker. Computers and building have always been the only things that could keep my attention. Yay for Multi Tasking!

The sad thing is they do this with adults too. Doctors will tell a patient they have fibromyalgia if patients constantly complain of chronic pain and cant prove any thing.

I've never been officially diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I have A.D.D. In fact, I think it's pretty common these days. At least in the geek community. It's pretty much another word for multi-tasking. :P
