(Special thanks to Pa Milo and Susan for citing references below!)
I shot some footage of my uncle, Pa Milo, performing "Naschmarkt" for the Schule für Dichtung, Sound Poetry section for Rund um die Burg.
Rund um die Burg (english translation: "Round the Fortress Theatre") is an Annual Literary Festival where authors of prose and poetry read their own works during a 24-hour period; this round-the-clock reading takes place around the Burgtheater (the nation's theater for classic drama performances, which has maintained an outstanding reputation within the German-speaking world.
Recording the acoustics with my Flip Cam in the open space was tough, so here's what you would have heard had you been lucky enough to be there in person: 3 layers of audio were superimposed:
(1) 1st layer was of the ambient sounds taken from Naschmarkt, Vienna's most popular outdoor market (~1.5 km long) which is located at the Wienzeile over the Wien River. This is where people buy fresh fruit and vegetables from around the world, exotic herbs, cheese, baked goods such as bread, kaiser rolls, and torte, meats, and seafood. There are also a lot of small restaurants which offer sushi, kebap, fish, seafood, traditional viennese food such as Kaiserschmarrn or Palatschinken (compares to rolled up crepes) and stalls which offer clothes and accessories. (source: wikipedia)
(2) 2nd layer was a recording of Pa Milo reciting a poem;
(3) 3rd layer was a live performance by Pa Milo which added a "flesh and blood" complexity to the existing acoustical cocktail.
So in this superimposition of sound, which comes to the forefront in your sense perception / attention?
