Hawaii Night Takeoff and Landing

From January 2, 2009. Playing with a Flip Mino HD. Not known for its low-light capabilities, I tried pointing it out the airplane window during a recent interisland flight anyway (Hawaiian Airlines Flt. #102 from Honolulu to Hilo). Note the rough landing!Image quality isn't helped by a hazy window, a shaky hand, and the reflection of the record light (which I think I'll tape over). Also, this was rendered to 24fps at 5,000 kbps in Final Cut Express. The Flip MinoHD records at 30fps up to 10,000 kbps.So, this isn't much of a test at all. The other clips are the actual Flip MinoHD video files, uploaded untouched.

Island Runways

From the HawaiiVog archives (June 27, 2008). Since I work near the airport, I sometimes take my lunch out to the end of Lagoon Drive and watch the airplanes take off and land. Seeing humongous jumbo jets rise into the sky always takes my breath away.

Hilo Takeoff

A short addition to my kids' collection of airplane takeoff videos. Departing Hilo International Airport (ITO) aboard go! Airlines flight 1039 on Wed., Jan. 2, 2008. It's an unusually clear day for the often gray and wet east side of the Big Island. Despite a dirty window and the glare of the sun, the view of the Hamakua Coast and Mauna Kea is impressive.
